Teaching in Alaska

How did I get here?  That is the question I hear most often when I talk about teaching in remote Alaska.  I don't know, I am adventurous, I like a challenge, I want to teach, .....   Truthfully, it is a lot of little answers that add up to my choice to come here.

Let me start at the beginning.  At the start of the summer I was determined to get a teaching job.  I was willing to move anywhere and it was not just a saying.  I began working on the process of looking, seriously, at Alaska by reading Alaska teaching blogs.  It intrigued me.  So, I filled out an application for multiple districts and began the process of getting certified.  Then I got a call in the middle of July for an interview.  The next day I had an interview over skype.  I thought it went well and the interviewer told me I should hear something within a couple of days.  Three days later I had a job offer and I was off and running.  This was the middle of July and new teacher training started August 1st.   The next two weeks became a blur of packing, shipping, and making arrangements.  Now I am here teaching 1st grade.  This will be an exciting year.  So many things have already happened and I can't wait to share them with my family and friends.

Let the fun begin, er continue!

On my way to the airport and off to new teacher training.

The view from my new home.
